Timothy Schmalz DocumentaryVideo ProductionA Pynx Multimedia Case StudyAboutIn 2021, we were engaged by Timothy Schmalz, a Canadian sculptor based out of St. Jacobs, Ontario, Canada. He focuses on religious figures and also has many public pieces. Schmalz is best known for his ‘Homeless Jesus’ that he created in reaction to the many homeless living on the streets Schmalz has also created many other pieces. On October 23, 2015 a 4-metre (13 ft) tall statue commemorating Gordon Lightfoot was unveiled in Orillia. The statue, ‘Golden Leaves’, features young Lightfoot playing guitar surrounded by a ring of maple leaves. The leaves each contain an image inspired by one song. Our first project with Timothy was a live stream broadcast for the University of St Thomas Aquinas in Minnesota. We virtually hosted Tim in a live setting and took a studio tour, followed by a live question and answer period from the University. After the live stream had concluded, Tim had recognized Pynx as a creative outfit that he wanted to work with. Shortly after, Tim picked up the phone and asked Pynx to help him with a 14 piece documentary video production, which we are currently working on. Tim is working on the 14 stations of the cross over the course of a few months time. Pynx has been engaged to follow along with Tims progress and provide video production services along the way to document the entire project. For the “First Station of the Cross – Station One” video, we filmed an introduction piece which included some B roll of Tim pulling up to his studio in Elmira, Ontario in his truck, going up the stairs to his studio, turning the lights on and unveiling his first piece. There is a short interview in the first video production piece that introduces Tim and his project and talks about the 14 stations as well as the first piece in detail. In addition to the stations of the cross project, Tim has also recently brought Pynx to his personal home studio to film some of his other projects. CAMERAS
For these projects, we wanted a cohesive look across the entire project. We have decided on using the 4K Canon XA55 video cameras across all of the 14 videos, and beyond, for Tim’s works. We are also utilizing the Manfrotto MVH502AH Fluid Head with MT055XPRO3 Tripod Stands for these projects.
LOCATIONS
Tim is an active, fun time artist and has multiple studio locations across Ontario and the world. Tim has brought us to several of his studios to film some of his projects. He has plans to bring us to international locations as this project unfolds.
LIGHTING Since there are a few different studio locations, we are using many different type of modifiers. The main lighting package we are utilizing is the Aputure Light Storm LC 120d LED 3 Light Kit, which has incredible output to showcase the tiny details in these clay sculptures GALLERYCONSULT WITH AN EXPERT AT PYNX!If you have any questions about our services and would like one of our consultants to contact you, please fill in this quick form and someone will contact you shortly.

However, during the pandemic this event had to be moved into the virtual space to keep the public safe. When the City of Brantford’s events committee came together to start discussing how to best bring this event to the virtual space, they realized they needed some help with some filming projects. When Pynx received the call to assist with the filming and production of the ‘Canadians Cook Together’ Canada Day Special, we were very grateful and happy to be included in the celebration. The video featured Junior Chef Showdown Season One winner, Audrey Mckinnon. The idea for this video production was to put together a 15 minute cooking demonstration with Audrey, where she would explain what she is doing along the way. The idea was to provide instructions for young people while watching the video and follow along. This project required some additional videography help due to the nature of its size. When we work on projects like this and need some help, we know we can always rely on our friends at Glassworks Creative for technical support and to help us with experienced camera operators. This team is incredible to work with! This video production took place inside of Our Kitchen Brantford, which is a local commercial kitchen. The team here was amazing, friendly and over the top accommodating for this video shoot. The setting was perfect – It was exactly what was needed for a project like this. The filming for this project took place over a full day, and the editing took about 40 hours at the Pynx Multimedia video production studio. The editing software used in the Pynx Multimedia studio was Final Cut Pro X. We have always enjoyed working with our friends at the City of Brantford and look forward to the next amazing video production project with them in the near future! ACCESSIBILITY The City of Brantford had a requirement to ensure that this video was made accessible to everyone who wish to view it. Pynx Multimedia was able to create two versions of this video on behalf of the City – One with closed captions embedded into the final project, and one without. MULTI CAMERA FILMING The particular video production included a four camera array shoot. The reason we went with four video cameras is so we could catch every single bit of the action. Cooking demos happen quick in a studio setting, so there’s not a lot of time and there is zero room for error. Once the food is cooked – that’s it. There’s no going back, so we keep all four cameras rolling pretty much all day! VIDEO EQUIPMENT
This video was shot on Canon C70 cameras. Some cameras were on fluid head stands, while others were on stabilizers. We also utilized an Aputure Light Storm 120D COB LED kit to light the venue. This really helped us create the kooks we were aiming to achieve inside of the building during the cooking demo.

CALL NOW MORE GREAT SERVICES FROM PYNXVia https://pynxmultimedia.com/audrey-mackinnon-video/ Canadian International Council Virtual RoundtableVirtual ConferenceA Pynx Multimedia Case StudyAboutPynx Multimedia was engaged by the Canadian International Council – Waterloo Branch to provide virtual event support for their two day international conference. Pynx supplied a dedicated four person team to bring this virtual event to life. The team included a project manager, an expert in webpage design, a communications officer and an IT specialist. The CIC itself wanted to use the Zoom Webinar Platform for their event, and Pynx Multimedia was happy to make it work on their behalf, as they had previous knowledge with this particular platform. The first step in the process was the web design project. The webpage design project included a full webpage hosted on our site, which had materials, resources, biographies and all sorts of other great pieces of information. The resource heavy webpage was made publicly available to the attendees of the event. The webpage will be hosted for one full year on behalf of the client. After the web design was underway, our communications officer went to work to create the registrations needed to pull in the audience on behalf of the group. The registrations themselves were sent out through the Pynx Multimedia MailChimp account on behalf of the client. We wanted to make a custom registration that didn’t look like it was coming from the Zoom platform, so we went with MailChimp. During the event itself, we had a team of three staff members to operate from different locations with separate internet connections. It was important to plan for the possibility of an Internet access point failure. Our communications officer was responsible for all push notifications during the event, to make sure everyone that was attending knew how to ask questions and where to find the resources for the event on the Pynx web site. We had our IT specialist and project manager working simultaneously on the event itself. Our IT expert was our back up specialist, in case any of the panelists had any problems with their power points or other items. Although it’s important to have our technicians keeping an eye on things, this event ran smooth and our IT department had an easy day and the event ran seamlessly. Our project manager was responsible for keeping an eye on the spotlight feature to ensure the people speaking were being clearly viewed by the audience at all times. This is a moving target and can be difficult at times but all went well during the six hours of the two day event. We recorded this event at two locations simultaneously in case of failure, the recording can be found on our website. COMMUNICATIONS Prior to, during and after the event, our communications officer was in tune and in touch with the registrants to offer support during all times. This included pre event information, push notifications during the event and sending out a survey after the event had concluded. WEBPAGE DESIGN Pynx Multimedia has an in-house web design expert who was on point during this event. There was dozens of changes leading up to the event, including panelist changes and new documentation coming in almost daily. Our team was able to include all relevant materials in a timely fashion to ensure seamless delivery to the end users. The completed webpage contains a great deal of resources available to the participants. VIEW WEBPAGE. PLATFORM The client insisted on using Zoom as many of their members across Canada were already familiar with the platform. Pynx has used the Zoom Webinar platform on dozens of events which made this event run smooth and on time. We utilized the Zoom Webinar platform for 1000 people. The webinar platform was a perfect fit, as we had a total of 24 panelists during the event.
